Good MORNING! hello craft peeps. Today, I am sharing a new wood craft. This one, really couldn’t be easier.

Look at that sweet flag. I know a lot of people are into folk art, and Americana and I hope this is right up your alley. Even if you don’t decorate your home in Americana and just use this for our National Holidays, you can use it several times during the year. And it also makes a lovely door stop because it’s solid wood.

And it’s a super easy craft. I told you with wood projects, you can ask the hardware store to do your cuts for you, ( unless you have a saw at home) and after painting and sanding, it won’t be long before you have a great project.

What you’ll need is a 2×4 piece of wood. You need 2 pieces of it cut to 8 inches. You’ll also need 2 pieces cut to 4.5 inches, and two pieces cut to 3.5 inches.

Also needed are

  • acrylic paint and clear sealer- I use a matte finish sealer
  • a sander or sand paper
  • bass wood  and exacto knife ( for the star)
  • jute or rope or twine- to wrap the flag.

After your pieces are cut, paint one each of the 8 and 4.5 pieces red and one each of the 8 and 4.5 inch pieces cream. Paint both 3.5 inch pieces blue. Let them dry and sand the whole piece for an aged look.

Mix up a glaze of brown acrylic paint and water, about a 1:3 ratio. Brush this on each piece all over, then splatter all the pieces with the same mixture. Let dry, seal pieces with clear spray.

Use a silicone glue to adhere the pieces together.

Cut out a folksy star from cardstock- I used the standby 5 pointed star and cut that out. Then use a pencil to trace your star on the bass wood. Cut out with an exacto , sand the edges and paint. also antique with brown paint glaze. Adhere to star with silicone glue.

I added a piece of jute between the two blue blocks, as they do not fit the width of the flag.

I then wrapped the jute around it and it hid it perfectly. When you have enough jute for your liking, tie a bow on the top of the flag.

Your Grand Old Flag is done! Enjoy your flag each National Holiday!
